Is teak furniture environmentally friendly?
One of the most common questions customers ask us is: How do I know if the teak is sustainable? At Luxus, we take our environmental responsibility very seriously and want to assure our customers that all of our teak furniture comes from legal sources. Choosing the right material for your outdoor furniture is important because you want to be sure it's durable and resilient, and you want to be assured that the materials used come from responsible sources.
In this blog, we discuss how we source our teak and why it is so important to choose an environmentally friendly supplier.
Where does luxury teak come from?
We offer a wide range of teak garden furniture, from garden sets to chairs, tables, and loungers. All the wood used for our furniture comes from sustainable plantations on the island of Java. These plantations are managed and owned by the Indonesian government, which has implemented a very strict and effective system for sustainable harvesting. Not only is the number of trees that can be felled each year monitored, but the trees used are also selected based on age and size. By controlling harvesting in this way, the government can effectively oversee the replanting of teak trees.
Is luxury teak sourced legally?
You may have noticed that all of our teak is SVLK certified. This system is used by the Indonesian government to ensure that the teak has been harvested legally. Only teak that fully complies with the guidelines established by the government can receive the SVLK certificate. Teak without an SVLK certificate that is sold on European markets has been harvested illegally.
Is teak a sustainable wood?
The teak we use doesn't come from a natural forest, but is responsibly sourced from government-regulated plantations that ensure it's a renewable resource through reforestation. These plantations work hard to ensure that teak doesn't become an endangered species and that any trees used for commercial purposes are harvested for that purpose.
Sustainable teak at Luxus
We take our corporate social responsibility very seriously and are proud that all of our teak comes from legal plantations. Illegal logging is a major problem worldwide. We hope our commitment to sourcing only sustainable teak gives you the confidence to shop with us.
Teak is an incredible material, and not only do we ensure that we source teak from legal plantations, but we also use teak for its many eco-friendly benefits. Teak is rich in natural oils, which give it natural resistance to pests. Because of this, the plantations don't need to use insecticides or chemicals during the growing season. We also ensure that all leftovers are recycled during the production of our teak furniture. We also only use Grade A teak to ensure our furniture is durable.
